Summer Fridays

Ah the feeling of a 'Summer Friday'! It's the time of year where everyone in New York City gives a unanimous sigh of relief as we all get to leave work early and hit up our favorite happy hour or hit the road/train-tracks en route to the closest beach destinations.... and of course gives us permission to head to the short office day in a little bit more of a casual gettup!

Nothing says summer more than torn white denim and a chambray shirt... it really should be a nation-wide uniform no matter your occupation. As much as I like to clean out my closet at the start of every season, the one thing I can't seem to get rid of is my denim. For summer, I always take some of my less expensive denim and get experimental with jorts [*jean-shorts*] and some destroyed accents. These acid-washed jeans from American Eagle Outfitters have now been repurposed into some on-trend, distressed denim that I'll be wearing all summer long and feel like a whole new pair of jeans. Just another reason not to get rid of them!

Just follow these few, easy steps to create some distressed denim for yourself:

Step One: Put jeans on so you can mark with a pencil where you'd like to see some distressing - This part is key that you actually put the jeans on... placement of rips is important!
Step Two: Using a pair of good scissors [carefully!], scratch over the pencil marked lines creating horizontal lines. Scratch over a few times so the threading starts to tear.
Step Three: With a new piece of sand-paper, go over the scratched lines to give it a more distressed look. As you sand you'll notice it will get more and more distressed. It's up to you when to stop.
Step Four: Wash in cold water and hang dry. This will break up and clean the threading so it looks nice and distressed. No need for soaps or a full cycle wash... a good rinse and spin will do!

Just like that you're done! Now get to your closet and find some denim you already planned on getting rid of and give it a go. Result vary. Please do not hate me if you don't like how they turned out lol... it takes some practice. Happy Friday friends!!
